Yesterday, paddlers from around the world pushed off from the Isthmus of Catalina Island to paddle 32 miles across the San Pedro Channel, finishing at the Manhattan Beach Pier. The @lacolifeguards have a long-standing history with this race, which was originally founded in 1955 by @lacolifeguard and race organizer Bob Hogan. Seventy years later, the @lacolifeguards presence remains stronger than ever. From organizers to paddlers, escort boat captains, crew, and safety personnel, @lacolifeguards share a special relationship with this race—a true testament to the #courage, #commitment, and #community that make the @catalinaclassicpaddleboardrace so special.

A special congratulations to Ocean Lifeguard Specialist Thomas for another podium finish in the Men’s Stock Division, clocking in at a blistering 6:05:53. Well done to all paddlers and @lacolifeguards for another successful day on the water!

Weekend weather for LA County beaches shows that summer is still very much in full swing, with air temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s along the coast. A lingering SSW swell will bring waist-to-chest-high waves, with the cleanest conditions in the morning. Be aware: rip current activity remains high throughout the county, so please check in with a @lacolifeguards before heading out. With the heat, we also recommend staying hydrated and seeking shade whenever possible. Enjoy the weekend and stay safe—we’ll see you on the sand!

{Excessive Heat Warning} - A long duration heat wave is expected across Los Angeles County. Elevated temperatures are forecasted inland and on the coast through Saturday evening. Stay cool by hydrating regularly, staying in the shade and using air conditioning when possible. If you plan to visit the beaches be sure to pack an umbrella, sunscreen, and plenty of fluids! When cooling off in the ocean, be sure to swim in front of an OPEN Lifeguard Tower & check in with a Lifeguard for an update on ocean & beach conditions in your area!

Over 500 ocean rescues were performed this past weekend along LA County beaches with more ocean activity expected the next few days. A new SSW swell is scheduled to start filling in today and will continue into the early part of the week, with forecasted wave heights reaching shoulder to head-high at top south-facing beaches. With the increase in swell activity will also come an increase in rip current activity, so please make it a point to know your abilities and check in with a lifeguard before entering the water to stay aware of all hazards. Have fun and stay safe.
